Erwin Rommert Weerstra studied piano, organ and composition at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.

After completing his Master's degree in piano at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, Erwin continued studying under Andrzej Jasinski. His composition professors were Daan Manneke, Roderik de Man, and Yannis Kyriakides.

As a pianist, Erwin has performed internationally to critical acclaim with a wide repertoire from Sweelinck to his own compositions.

Erwin has won prizes in several international competitions, both as a performer and as a composer. For example, he won the Annual Platinum Prize and Pianist of the Year Award at the European Classical Music Awards in 2023, and in December 2025, he won second prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Composizione "Orazio Michi dell'Arpa" in Italy for his composition "Cari Lumi Che Pietosi".

In March 2026, Erwin signed with Donemus, which has begun publishing his compositions.
